Baptism

If you are interested in being baptized, please read the following and then talk to one of our pastors.

Baptism

In the New Testament, the people who were baptized were individuals who had made a personal commitment to Christ.  Commitment to Christ always preceded water baptism which preceded membership.

 Why should we be Baptized?

Obedience                                                            Matt 28:18-20

In the Great Commission, Jesus commanded us to be involved in the
ministry of Baptism.

Identification with Christ                                      Romans 6:1-4

Baptism identifies us with Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.

Example                                                               Matt 3:13-17,

Jesus Himself set the example by allowing John to baptize Him.   It is an example of obedience and surrender.

Identification with God’s Family                   1 Corinthians 12:13

Baptism identifies us with God’s Family.

Testimony                                                              Acts 8:26-39
Baptism is an outward declaration of an inner transformation.

If you would like to be baptized at Martensville Baptist here is what you need to know.

  1. Let us know you are interested. Talk to a pastor or mark the Communication Card.
  2. Attend the next Baptism/Membership Seminar. If one is not planned, we will schedule one for you.   (An evening or Saturday morning meeting with one of our pastors.)
  3. Share your story with the Elders Board.
  4. Share your story in church just before you are baptized.

At Martensville Baptist Church, we encourage people who are following Christ in Baptism to also consider Church Membership.  While baptism is a demonstration of your commitment to Christ, membership is a way to publicly declare your connection to the body of Christ for the purpose of fulfilling the mission God had called us to.
